PopTag!

PopTag! Flash Demo is a browser-based promotional version of Nexon's PopTag!, the North American adaptation of the Korean online game Crazy Arcade. Released by NexonAmerica in January 2010 shortly before the North American launch of the full game, the demo turns its water-balloon combat into a compact single-player action-puzzle experience.

You control a character through maze-like stages filled with crates, containers, obstacles, and roaming monsters. Movement is handled with the Arrow Keys, while the Space Bar places a water balloon. When a balloon bursts, water spreads horizontally and vertically, so positioning and timing are important if you want to catch enemies without being trapped by your own attack. This water-based battle system was also a defining feature of the original multiplayer PopTag! game.

The Flash demo also includes two usable items, activated with the 1 and 2 keys. The first item upgrades the slow turtle mount into a faster one, giving the player improved mobility. The second is a dart that can be used to escape after becoming trapped inside a water bubble. Because some stages contain many enemies and narrow passages, using these items at the right moment can make difficult situations much easier to manage.

As you progress, the arrangement of crates and enemies changes, opening up different routes and requiring more careful balloon placement. Completing a stage brings up a results screen showing information such as remaining lives, time, and defeated monsters before moving on to the next round.

Later in the demo, the player encounters a much larger pirate-themed Octopus King. Instead of simply clearing small enemies, you must dodge the boss while repeatedly attacking it with water balloons. After taking enough damage, the giant octopus can itself be trapped inside a large bubble, matching the game's opening objective to capture the Octopus King.

The Flash version is much smaller in scope than the original PopTag! online game, which supported multiplayer battles against other players and NPCs across a variety of maps and modes. However, it preserves the recognizable movement, water-balloon explosions, colorful characters, and maze-based gameplay that connected PopTag! to Crazy Arcade.
